Hey, I like The Beatles as much as the next guy. But I chose not to include Monday night’s Stephen Colbert / Late Show interview with Ringo Starr in this post for two simple reasons: 1 | There was no musical performance, and 2 | It was pretty much the same as every other Ringo interview you’ve ever seen — peace and love, Beatles stories you’ve heard 1,000 times, a blatant plug or two for his new EP and blah blah blah. Been there, done that.
When it comes to Late-Night TV Music, I’d much rather hear and see something new, you know? Like, for instance, Valerie June and her band delivering the vintage-sounding Call Me A Fool for Late Night with Seth Meyers.Or Irish rockers Picture This going from the bedsit to the stadium grounds with their U2-ish anthem Things Are Different on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Or even Japanese Breakfast (aka Michelle Zauner) grooving up the scene with her performance of Be Sweet on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. If you agree, click on, friend. Click on.
