iamtheliving and Teon Gibbs get back in the groove with their second collaborative single Puppa — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
“We decided to join forces to create tracks that would make people want to dance — get lost in the groove (no pun intended!) — and bring people together,” says Vancouver’s iamtheliving (aka Rian Peters). “We feel that our music is going to do exactly that. As individual artists, our sound is much different from this track and it’s not typically what we’re known for. We’re fans of this sound and think it shows our versatility as artists.”
Fuelled by a seductive groove, propelled by polyrhythmic percussion and decorated with shimmering synths and a singalong refrain, Puppa takes up where the duo’s debut single Between the Groove left off. And if Peters has his way, it won’t be their last joint production. “There needs to be more cross-genre collaborations in Vancouver; more black voices uniting and creating music together. To be real. We just need more positive energy to get us through these crazy times!”
In February of 2016, during a trip to L.A., Rian was fortunate enough to be introduced to Grammy and Juno-winning producer, songwriter Chin Injeti. After he moved to Canada in 2018, they began to break ground writing and creating music together. Teon also found artistic success in Canada after his move to Vancouver from Botswana. Together they are motivated and inspired by the lifestyle of the West Coast — being surrounded by incredible nature and having the privilege to breath fresh air every day; seeing how the power of music can connect with people from all walks of life; and encouraging others to have a positive mindset and strive for overall well-being.
