This is starting to get silly. And by silly, I mean fucking ridiculous. The beginning of July used to be when the record business started slowing down for the summer. Not this year. Thanks to the massive backlog of delayed releases and the complete absence of live shows, the whole crazy train is just picking up speed. In the past 48 hours, I’ve added 70 titles to the Upcoming Releases list — and that’s not counting a bunch of one-day releases (including a Pup live album, a Father John Misty covers EP and some boygenius demos) being issued tomorrow for Bandcamp’s latest no-fee day. The bigger names joining my list today are The Avett Brothers (who will release The Third Gleam on Aug. 28) and Sufjan Stevens (whose Ascension album lands Sept. 25). But as the infomercials say, that’s not all! Not by a long shot.
