Late-Night TV Music (Slow Start Edition) | Jan. 6, 2020

I meant to post this earlier, but I spent ages trying to come up with something pithy to say about the new decade’s first night of late-night TV music. Really, I got nothing. I’m not sure if that says more about me or Monday’s night performances, which were about as inspired as all those memes of Barbara Walters saying “This is 20/20” that made the rounds. Oh sure, the always-splendid H.E.R. delivered a cool performance of Slide on Late Night with Seth Meyers. But beyond that, it was all pretty meh: Miranda Lambert made it eye-rollingly clear no one loves her like Tequila Does on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert; Lil Baby led his spasmodically gyrating dance crew through the instantly forgettable Woah on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon; and Pharrell Williams played choirmaster again with his rendition of Letter To My Godfather on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Fingers crossed that 2020 gets more interesting from here on out.
