Guys with guitars are a mainstay of contemporary music. So it’s no surprise they took centre stage on Wednesday’s late-night shows. The biggest name in the lineup was The Band’s enigmatic and charismatic frontman Robbie Robertson, performing his single Let Love Reign to promote his recently released album Sinematic on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. But he was not alone, of course. Bearded British troubadude Tom Walker showed up on The Late Late Show With James Corden to urge us all to Leave A Light On, which frankly seems like a waste of energy when we should be conserving and recycling. The folks at Jimmy Kimmel Live know what I’m talking about. They didn’t have a musical segment on Wednesday — instead, they posted a second song from Tuesday’s guest Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real. And since Willie’s boy and his pals obviously fit today’s dude-centric theme, I’ve included their performance of Civilized Hell. Finally, speaking of hell, if you’re looking for some relief from all this facial hair and testosterone, there’s no better place to turn than The Ellen DeGeneres Show — Thursday’s episode features country supergroup The Highwomen, harmonizing on their hit Redesigning Women. If only they could redesign the tired music-biz model of guys with guitars, then we’d be getting somewhere.
