Nobody wants to be too busy on Monday. Including the late-night talk shows, who eased into the week with a handful of mid-level performers. Like country singer Maren Morris singing her nostalgic Song For Everything on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Or Fifth Harmony refugee Lauren Jauregui belting out her pop waltz Expectations on The Late Late Show With James Corden. Or even my pick of the night, singer-songwriter Andrew Bird presenting his number Sisyphus on Busy Tonight — which just started booking musical acts regularly, and just announced it’s going off the air later this month. Conicidence? Yeah, probably. And last but not least, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon didn’t have a live performer on Monday, but did post this clip of Mac DeMarco doing a lounge version of Feist’s One Evening with his typically ironic, smug detachment. Too bad we can’t cancel that.
