Late-Night TV Music (Dog Day Edition) | March 20, 2019

Pup, Daddy Yankee, ScHoolboy Q & morgxn bring some bite to late night.

You know what they say: Every dog has his day. For Pup, that day was Wednesday night, when the scrappy Canadian mutts made their late-night debut with a typically raucous, rough ’n’ tumble performance of Kids on Late Night With Seth Meyers. It was easily the highlight of the night — but not the only Canadian reference. Check out Daddy Yankee’s version of Con Calma on The Late Late Show With James Corden and tell me it doesn’t sound familiar. That’s right; it’s a “reimagining” of Snow’s CanCon classic Informer. I shit thee not. Congrats to Snow on his lottery win. But watch out for those tracksuited dancers; they’ll give you the creeps. No such worries from top-shelf rapper ScHoolboy Q, who served up a swell medley of Numb Numb Juice and Chopstix with a little help from The Roots on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. On any other night, he would have been top dog around here. But not this evening — despite having a typographically silly name, even L.A. dance-pop singer morgxn came on like gangbusters with strong performances of Alone/Forever and Home on Last Call With Carson Daly. All in all, a good night. And not a dog in the bunch. To quote Q, OK, let’s get it:
