Classic Album Review: Terence Blanchard | Flow

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Trumpeter Terence Blanchard cut his teeth with Lionel Hampton and Art Blakey, but made a name for himself with his cool-jazz soundtracks for Spike Lee joints like Malcolm X and Jungle Fever.

With Flow, his second Blue Note CD, Blanchard turns up the heat, moving between intricate post-bop, earthy Afrobeat grooves, synth-dappled funk and artsy noodling — all fuelled by his articulate phrasing, impressive range, powerful delivery and crystal-clear tone. Go with Blanchard’s Flow.
