Classic Album Review: Tsunami Bomb | The Definitive Act

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

The punchy charging beats. The chugging buzzsaw guitars. The whoa-ho choruses and throat-shredding screamo backups.

They’re all standard ingredients in your basic punk platter. And they’re all found in abundance on The Definitive Act, the latest effort from co-ed California foursome Tsunami Bomb — though these kids do deliver them with a slightly sharper edge and a dash more originality than most of their soundalike cohorts. Their biggest asset, however, is frontwoman Agent M, whose strong pipes and pointed lyrics add some new flavours to the standard emo-punk recipe — and a much-needed shot of estrogen to combat all that punk-rock testosterone. Definitive? Not quite. Distinctive? For sure.
