This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
To sing in English or Spanish? It is the eternal Latin-music conundrum.
Choose the former and you’ll be slammed for selling out; stick with the latter and you’ll be slammed for not selling enough. Shakira’s solution? Do both. Thus we have Fijacion Oral Vol. 1, an eclectic yet accessible set that jumps around between groovy Latin-pop, singer-songwriter sincerity, new wavy rock, Bacharachish orch-pop and almost anything else that strikes Shakira’s fancy — all voiced en Español (and produced by the ubiquitous Rick Rubin, who seems to be pursuing some sort of Guinness record this year). And thus, in a few months we’ll have Oral Fixation, Vol. 2 for those who prefer their Latin-pop in English. As for the bilingual members of her fan base, well, I’m fairly confident Shakira would not be offended if you bought them both.
