Gabriella Zauna sets her sights on success in her pulsating new dark-pop anthem Pinup — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
The L.A. singer-songwriter hypnotically mysterious track navigates the existential feeling of self deprecation to which we all fall so easily victim. Through an infectious sonic landscape and stirring, edgy lyrics, Zauna separates herself from self-pity and achieves her aspirations.
Zauna uplifts listeners to always strive for authentic self improvement and being a better version of yourself today than you were yesterday, highlighting the importance of self care along the way. Encompassing her alt-tone with dreamlike ethereal features and darkly captivating instrumentals, Zauna dives into all-too-relatable themes everyone experiences, especially women, in terms of needing to fit a certain image.
“This track explores emotions of self-loathing and deprecating thoughts regarding life experiences, appearance/physique, and falling victim to the societal time clock,” she says. “For women in particular, this song dives into the societal pressures that we feel and the thoughts of self-contempt and comparison in regard to our bodies, as well as criticizing aspects of ourselves, thinking that it will solve the problem. We have this preconceived notion of when our careers are supposed to take off, when certain landmarks in life are supposed to happen and when they don’t, you beat yourself up naturally.
“This song is a reminder to myself to toughen up when you think you have it worse than everyone else — to push forward, work harder, and stay invincible no matter how hard you may want to give up. Wallowing about what you haven’t accomplished yet in life will push you back, getting up and making yourself who you’ve always wanted to be will push you forward.”
Pinup was written and produced by Zauna, showcasing her artistry as an emerging force within the music scene, embodying a unique musical landscape with an ominous twist.
Zauna, originally from Los Angeles, grew up in a musical family — her father played in a punk band. Zauna found a passion for writing music at age seven and began releasing it at 15, drawing beauty from the darkness, utilizing songwriting as a storytelling outlet for her life experiences and adversities. Zauna stirs the soul and sparks the mind with her authenticity, drawing inspiration from artists like Imogen Heap, Lana Del Rey, Raye, John Summit and Fred Again. As a “one-woman band,” she weaves a sonic tapestry that’s entirely her own, crafting music that’s both deeply personal and universally resonant.
