Jadewick demand your undivided attention and won’t take no for an answer on their unhinged new single Clout Goblin — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
Like all great works of timelss art and immortal beauty, the latest conniption fit from this Memphis noise-rock power trio is hard to sum up in mere words. You could say it’s like sticking your head into a running jet engine while a crazy person screams in your ear. Or what it’s like to take too much speed and spend an hour tumbling with several cats in one of those big laundromat dryers. Or like getting struck by lightning during a thunderstorm while fleeing from an asylum — and having that giant boulder from the Indiana Jones movies chase you down the road. Hey, we’ve all been there.
Of course, what else would you expect from the men of Jadewick — aka Zohayr, Sameer and Barrett. They’re known for their chaotic and intense shows, and remain one of the most prolific bands to come out of the Bluff City to this day. With Clout Goblin, they spread the love around by welcoming a guest vocal performance from Haley Ivey of fellow Memphis peers, Little Baby Tendencies. She should probably know better, but ah, what are you gonna do, amirite?
And I’d love to tell you what she — or any of them — are singing about here, but I can only make out about every third or fourth word. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in this life, it’s this: Bloodcurdling screams speak for themselves. Take that to the bank, kiddo.
What more do you need to know about these guys? Well, since 2016, Jadewick have been playing locally and nationally. The band started out as a four-piece post hardcore/indie project, but after becoming a trio in 2021, they found their true north in the noise-punk world. They all have roots in heavier music, and the new sound has harkened back to that era.
Nowadays, their live shows usually involve singer-guitarist Zo running into the crowd and yelling in their faces, while Barrett unspools bass so heavy your ancestors can feel it in their bones, and Sameer lets fly with drum fills you wish you wrote. They have now added touring back into their repertoire, and they are just getting started. It’s a new era for Jadewick. And based solely on their first names, two of them will probably be deported to some third-world detention camp any day now, so get in on this action while you can.
