This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Weerd Science is the hip-hop alter ego of a guy named Josh Eppard. That’s not especially weird.
What is kinda weird, though, is that Eppard is also the drummer in New York neo-prog metal-punks Coheed And Cambria. Even weirder: He doesn’t suck at hip-hop. In fact, his debut Friends And Nervous Breakdowns puts him in league with Buck 65, Sage Francis and the Peanuts and Corn Crew. Eppard knows how to craft a funky, bumptious beat, natch. But he also knows how to accessorize it with inventively stark, haunting samples. Most importantly, he also knows how to top the whole shebang with raspy, rapid-fire rhymes that are silly, sardonic or shocking — but always sly, strong and sharp. Not to mention — as songs like Conspiracy Theories w/ Out Mel Gibson and Joshua They’re Laughing At You make unmistakably obvious — just plain weird.
