THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Riding the tides of doom-laden riffs and intoxicating grooves, Crystal Spiders return with their third album Metanoia. Known for their alchemical blend of heavy metal and psychedelic soundscapes, they delve deeper into the abyss, exploring themes of transcendentalism and expansion in a collection of tracks that is both gritty and beautiful.
In Metanoia, Crystal Spiders masterfully intertwine searing NWOBHM guitar solos, thunderous fuzzed-out basslines and howling vocal harmonies. Building on the foundations laid by legends from Black Sabbath and Judas Priest to Fu Manchu, Kyuss, Windhand and beyond with an innovative approach, Crystal Spiders infuse the best elements of both classic rock and heavy metal dynamics.
The album’s title, derived from the ancient Greek word for a transformative change of heart, encapsulates a journey of transcending boundaries and venturing into uncharted territories while blending personal introspection and broader societal commentary into a dark, poetic and highly evocative imagery and lyricism. “Overall, Metanoia is a profound exploration of the human condition, using powerful imagery and introspective lyrics to invite listeners on a transformative journey. The tracks explore personal and collective change, often through tumultuous experiences that lead to growth and new understanding,” says bassist and vocalist Brenna Leath.
Crystal Spiders emerged in 2019 as the brainchild of Leath, who wanted to explore a new creative path after years performing with Lightning Born. Quickly establishing themselves as pioneers of a new breed of heavy rock and stoner doom, their first self-recorded demo secured them favourable coverage, and was followed up by the albums Molt and Morieris.
Having earned critical acclaim and the support of a diverse, growing fanbase extending well beyond their North Carolina roots, Crystal Spiders’ momentum is now at an all-time high as they prepare for their biggest year yet.”
