This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Yep, those Guthries.
Sarah Lee is the daughter of Arlo and granddaughter of Woody. But even though she’s joined the family business — and is even following in her forefathers’ footsteps in many ways — she’s also blazing her own trail with the help of her equally talented husband Johnny Irion. On Exploration, their first album as a duo, they pool their talents on a dozen personable, political folksongs spiked with the cosmic country and crunchy roots-rock of producer Gary (Jayhawks) Louris and an endearingly ragged alt-country band. I think it sorta sounds like Gillian Welch and David Rawlings jamming with The Band. I think Woody would dig that. You just might too.
