This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Some bands want to sound like Radiohead. A few might want to take after The Locust. Washington electro-duo Idiot Pilot can’t seem to make up their mind.
So, on their distinctive and intriguing debut Strange We Should Meet Here, they lay down a lush carpet of moody electronic bleep-bloopery, wounded vocals and skittery rhythmic glitchcraft — then interweave distorted, lung-shredding screamo backup vocals and the occasional bone-grinding guitar chords. So you end up with something between Kid A, Nine Inch Nails and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Which is a strange meeting place by anybody’s reckoning.
