THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “Through an artistic universe of great richness — experimental pop music, poetry, beat literature and occult iconography — Ellah A. Thaun has forged a loyal fanbase that has discovered her adventures over many scenes and many close friends. Her music is based on scenes of extreme music (Hindu, metal, hardcore), along with a guitar-music heritage of post hardcore and grunge (Hüsker Dü, Quicksand).”
After kicking off a solo side project while in the industrial-dance act Valeskja Valcav, Thaun — aka Nathanaëlle Eléonore Hauguel — quickly moved from and noisy electronica to a very personal mix of psychedelic folk songwriting, lo-fi and occult-inspired aesthetics. Through a classic DIY process based on recording with anything within reach, she delivered limited releases on tape — sometimes four, five or more per year, including concept albums and trilogies, homemade videos and art zines.
As a trans woman, her music and words can’t be dissociated from the queer scene, since her social and hormonal transition has been widely documented or hinted at through her recordings and other works. While still pursuing solo efforts, she worked up a live set with a band playing a retrospective of her songs as well as new ones. It eventually became her main project. The band playing with her is known as Major Arcana and includes Alex on drums, Iris on guitar, Jill on synths, Samuel on drums too and the Grand Guru on guitar as an occasional guest.”
