Classic Album Review: Elvis Presley | Elvis By The Presleys

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

A companion piece to the eponymous TV documentary on The King — not to mention a two-part biopic and a giant book — the 24-track Elvis By The Presleys purports to paint a more personal picture of Evvis’s life and career.

Which is to say: It has a few more obscure tracks than your typical Evvis comp (like Indescribably Blue and Steamroller Blues), and seems to focus more on his later, often-overlooked songs than his early, terminally overexposed work.

YEARS: 1954 – 1977.

HIGHLIGHTS: Heartbreak Hotel, I Got A Woman, Trouble, In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds, Always On My Mind, Burning Love and other classics.

EXTRAS! EXTRAS! An enjoyable second disc of demos and studio outtakes, including a handful of previously unissued odds ’n’ sods. Thangya. Thangyavurrymush.
