This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
Piano-pop singer-songwriter Ben Folds has always possessed a keen eye, a sharp tongue, a dry wit — and a soft heart.
On his seventh set Songs For Silverman, he blends them into the most earnest, mature and personal disc of his career. Underscored by Joe Jacksonesque keyboard work and bittersweet melodies, Folds tones down the irony and sarcasm on songs about fatherhood, aging and the death of singer-songwriter Elliott Smith. Whoever Silverman is, he’s obviously close to Folds’ heart. Just as this disc will be to those of Folds’ fans.
