Classic Album Review: Le Peuple de L’Herbe | Cube

This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Don’t let their Francophone handle disturb, distract or deter you. You don’t have to parlez to partay with Lyon hip-hop collective Le Peuple de L’Herbe and their third full-length Cube.

All you have to do is be able to appreciate a funky groove (usually played by a real drummer as opposed to the expected beatbox) topped with some savvy sampling ‘n’ scratching, along with the occasional rap with a delivery reminiscent of Beastie Boys or inspired by Martin Sheen’s interior monologue from the beginning of Apocalypse Now. That seems easy enough to appreciate in any language.
