This came out in 2005 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):
When Jess Klein pouts, “C’mon now baby, won’t you love me love me love me?” you can’t imagine anyone turning her down. At least not in the musical sense.
On her fifth disc Strawberry Lover, the Boston singer-songwriter still has a girlish voice that’s a little bit Lucinda Williams, a little bit Emmylou Harris and a little bit Stevie Nicks (minus the bray). But on these 11 cuts, she updates and upgrades her alt-country and folk-pop with punchy roots-rock, R&B, reggae and even sunny ’60s girl-group pop. If you liked Klein before, you’ll love her love her love her now.
