Andrew Young reflects on memories of youth with his nostalgic ’90s-inspired single September — showcasing today on Tinnitist.
A love letter to memories of the past, the North Carolina singer-songwriter’s new track evokes nostalgia both sonically and lyrically, with bright and upbeat instrumentation inspired by ’90s alt-rock acts like The Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty and Third Eye Blind.
Lyrically, the track calls back to memories of youth and wonder associated with early fall. “Take me back to that September and the way it made me feel,” Young reflects. “Stay with me, now and forever / Burn these days into my mind.” Propelled by a solid yet upbeat backbeat and laced with guitars that hit the sweet spot between jangle and crunch, September is dance-friends, radio-ready and perfect for windows-down driving.
“I absolutely adore September,” the 26-year-old Young professes. “This song is inspired by the music and memories that raised me. Whenever I hear that style of music, it brings me back to the memories I hold closest to my heart — I hope it resonates with the listener in the same way.” The second preview single from his forthcoming EP Hello Again, September was produced by Will Gawley and Bryce Roberts, and was recorded with Charlotte Avenue Entertainment in Nashville.
From Day 1, Young has employed creativity in every facet of his life and craft. Born without a left hand, he fought through trials and tribulations at a young age to write, sing, and play guitar with the aid of a rubber band and plastic spoon. His creativity and flexibility in life shine through in his music, while his passionate vocals and ear-catching writing style have turned heads from a young age. Whether he’s playing festivals across Virginia and North Carolina or opening for the likes of Bad Suns, Matt & Kim and The Mowglis, his passion, versatility, and inspirational message connect with audiences.
