Alex Runions finds the Missing Piece to love in his heartfelt and romantic new single — premiering exclusively on Tinnitist.
Written by Runions and Chris Burke-Gaffney (MacKenzie Porter, Chantal Kreviazuk), Missing Piece is the first release of 2025 from the Saskatoon artist, and the third single to arrive from his upcoming third album, Above the Clouds and On the Ground, due March 7.
Inspired by the relationship between Runions and his wife — fellow artist Erin Hill — Missing Piece was produced by Burke-Gaffney as a breezy blend of Americana, country, folk-rock, and folk-pop vibes that captures the song’s heartfelt essence.
“This song is about the profound impact that finding ‘your person’ can have on your own well-being and sense of self,” Runions says. “Chris and I are both fortunate to have incredible partners in our personal lives. In writing Missing Piece, we wanted to show how connecting with someone can inspire joy, a renewed sense of purpose, and make you a better person in ways that you don’t truly realize until it’s happened to you. In the studio, we followed these themes into making a song that is uplifting, romantic, and easy to listen to.”
After reaching key milestones in the commercial country music arena — including a pair of albums, several charting Canadian radio singles, multiple SCMA awards, and performances at The Grey Cup and the CCMA Awards Week Songwriters’ Series — Missing Piece is the latest showcase for Runions as an eclectic singer-songwriter who draws from select sonic influences.
As he embraces marriage and fatherhood for the first time, Runions is offering Missing Piece as a loving testament to his own gratitude, an inspiration for others who have or are seeking similar relationships, and an intimate reflection of the more personal storytelling that is present on his upcoming album.
