On March 12 1955, jazz saxophone maverick Charlie Parker died in New York City. Although he was only 34, a doctor who examined him reportedly thought he was in his 50s thanks to the bebop pioneer’s years of hard living and substance abuse. Clearly, Parker took everything to the limit — for better or worse.
