Classic DVD Review: Josh Groban | In Concert

Your mother's favourite singer pulls out the popera stops in this 80-minute PBS show.

This came out in 2003 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

THE MAIN EVENT: For those who missed classical-pop singing sensation Josh Groban’s PBS special last November — or for those who want a pristine copy of the 80-minute show — here it is.

With the help of a full orchestra and guests like conductor John Williams, soul powerhouse Angie Stone, sexpot violinist Lily Haydn, Celtic starlet Andrea Corr and mentor David Foster, Groban delivers a mixed slate of operatic numbers (Alla Luce Del Sole) and more contemporary fare (The Prayer).

EXTRAS! EXTRAS! A full CD with most of the same numbers and a pair of bonus tracks including O Holy Night; 30 minutes of professionally shot documentary footage and amateur behind-the-scenes home video from Groban’s brother Chris.

AW, SKIP IT: See Josh practise tumbling onto a mat! See the documentary crew film him tumbling onto a mat! See Chris film the documentary crew as they film Josh tumbling onto a mat! See if you don’t hit the fast-forward!
