Eghe Nimose Has Your Number

The Nigerian multi-talent crosses musical borders with his infections new release.

Eghe Nimose shifts into a higher gear with his latest single and video Four By Four — showcasing today on Tinnitist.

The leadoff single and opening track from the prolific Nigerian singer, songwriter, musician, and producer’s just-released debut album Edo Nimose, the multi-faceted Four By Four effortlessly hits the sweet spot between Congolose rumba, highlife, rap and Afrobeat, adding dashes of dancehall, reggaeton and more for good measure. Propelled by a playfully loose Afro-Caribbean groove, laced with glistening sonics and understatedly inspired production, and topped with Nimose’s dusty vocals and laid-back confidence, the sunny track is equally at home on your playlist and the dance floor — and introduces newcomers to his signature style known as RumbaDub.

Born Aghayedo Kelvins Eghosa in 1983 in Nigeria’s Edo State, Nimose grew up in the city of Benin with his maternal mother while his father, Mike Oyomoare Aghayedo, was away with the Nigerian Navy. Nimose quickly developed interest in music at early age and was part of his local church choir. He eventually started playing the bass guitar and piano for at 17. This built his foundational music understanding. He never considered music as a career until in 2017, when he released his first single She’s Bad, unveiling his take on the Congolese rumba sound.

From these humble beginnings — his first single attracted few plays and earned him a mere five followers on Spotify — Nimose has made great strides. Influenced by the likes of Fally Ipupa, Koffi Olomide, Férré Gola, Papa Wemba and Shabba Ranks, he continued to experiment and evolve, releasing a series of tracks that led to the the five-track EP RumbaDub. Released in 2021, it focused dancehall and reggae music in tracks like Let You Go and No Play. Complemented by well-executed videos, the tracks have helped him amass more than 17,000 fans on his verified Facebook page and over 10,000 on Instagram.

The EP was re-released lat Halloween to prime the pump for Edo Nimose, which arrived just days before Christmas on the French label Mwerfrance (formerly Miracle World Entertainment) and his own label StarCloud Records. Over the course of 10 songs in 34 minutes, the album gracefully and seamlessly crosses musical borders, blending earthy percussion, lush keyboards, nimble desert-rock guitars and much more with Nimose’s entrancing vocals and lyrics that combine his local dialect Bini with French, English and Lingala.

Along with his solo releases, Nimose has worked with several acts in his career including American rapper Wordplay T Jay and Nigerian singer and producer SOJ Da Legend. When he isn’t making music, the award-winning computer scientist runs a tech firm in Abuja, Nigeria.
