Classic Album Review: Crazytown | Darkhorse

The L.A. rap-rockers drop a sophomore album of mook-metal & funk-pop ballads.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

If the tune Hurt You So Bad on Crazytown’s Darkhorse reminds you of Weezer, well, it’s no wonder.

None other than Rivers Cuomo plays guitar on the track, a harmonic little bubble-grunge beaut that could have come right off of his band’s last album. Pity these L.A. rap-rockers didn’t keep him — and that vibe — around a little longer. They might have ended up with a better sophomore album than this plodding, heavy-handed set of Limp Bizkit mook-metal and Red Hot Chili Peppers funk-pop ballads. Next time, guys, skip the hip-hop and go straight for the pop.
