Classic Album Review: Elvis Costello & The Imposters | Cruel Smile

The prolific singer-songwriter's rarities collection is far more kind than cruel.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Continuing the type-A behaviour he’s been displaying lately, Elvis Costello cleans out his closet and presents the faithful with the expected assortment of recent live cuts, remixes and odds ’n’ ends, most of which are apparently a byproduct of this year’s outstanding comeback CD When I Was Cruel. A remarkable live medley of Watching the Detectives and — believe it or not — My Funny Valentine is just one that will make you smile.
