Classic Album Review: Sahara Hotnights | Jennie Bomb

These Swedes offer head-banging, hip-shaking, gum-snapping glam-punk anthems.

This came out in 2002 – or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

Plenty of folks know that The Donnas are the illegitimate musical daughters of The Runaways. Now, get ready to meet another branch of the family: Swedish cousins Sahara Hotnights.

These four black-leather-and-denim-clad rocker chicks come armed with black Les Pauls, four major chords, some vintage Girlschool harmonies and plenty of good old-fashioned punky attitude. All of which get put to good use on their second album Jennie Bomb, which features head-banging, hip-shaking, gum-snapping glam-punk anthems with titles like Keep Up The Speed, We’re Not Going Down, Alright Alright (Here’s My Fist Where’s the Fight?) and Only The Fakes Survive. Not in this case — Sahara Hotnights are definiltey for real, and they seem to be doing just fine.
