Albums Of The Week: Bzdet | Nie Ma Nic

I know almost nothing about these Spanish outsiders & their bizarre album — except that it's one of the strangest things I've heard all day. What more do you need?

The only information I could find about Bzdet and this album comes from a single line press release — “Bzdet is a deep-lofi-post-punk/weird new wave/eko punk solo project from Szczecin, Poland. Chorus-laden basses, psychotic guitars, repetitive drums and sinister vocals, with addictive fluidity and rough sensitivity” —  and the tags on their Bandcamp page: “Punk / bizarre / lo-fi / post-punk / weird / weird pop / Valencia.” Well, fair enough.

Of course, they could have also added angular / propulsive / noisy / dark / rubbery / psychedelic / Butthole Surfers-inspired / disturbling / enigmatic / claustrophobic / alien. And fragmented — a lot of these tracks appear to start and end in the middle, which made think they were snippets of larger works. But the songs are all the same on different streaming services, so I don’t know what the hell is going on here. But I do know it’s one of the weirdest things I’ve heard all day. And really, how much more do you need to know?
