Sonic Reducers | RIP Don Everly

The folk-rock pioneer has died at 84. And we have something to say about that.

Sad news for classic music fans today: Don Everly, the last surviving member of The Everly Brothers, passed away on Saturday at age 84.

I’m not going to try to summarize his life and career here, since the internet is full of exhaustive bios that are far better than anything I could dash off. I’ll just say that for my money, Don and Phil never got as much credit as they deserved. And I’m not alone; my Sonic Reducers co-host Eric Alper agrees. Join us as we mourn the passing of Don Everly, try to figure out why The Everly Brothers ended up taking a backset to so many of their peers, and allude to the time we almost got into a bar fight in L.A. just before hanging out with Phil Everly at the Capitol Records TowerSonic Reducers. One topic. Two music nerds. Five minutes. Everything you need to know.
