Classic Album Review: Uncle Luke | Something Nasty

This disc will offend almost everyone — when they aren’t laughing out loud.

This came out in 2001 — or at least that’s when I got it. Here’s what I said about it back then (with some minor editing):

If Eminem wants to silence his critics, he’d be sending this comeback disc from former 2 Live Crew frontman Luther Campbell to every critic in the country. Next to the misogynist, expletive-laced, sex ’n’ violence filled ranting of Uncle Luke, Marshall Mathers looks like a choirboy.

Yes, folks, the man who brought you the raunch-rap classic Me So Horny is back. And he’s still as nasty as he wants to be on this 25-song set full of bump ’n’ grind beats, cheeseball synths and more hoes than a garden show. Never mind quoting lyrics — I can’t even print the titles of all these tracks! But along with being rude, crude and lewd, Something Nasty is thoroughly addictive, thanks to some deft beatbox manipulations and Luke’s continuing knack for turning potty-mouth humour into catchy refrains. This disc is guaranteed to offend almost everyone — when they aren’t laughing out loud. I can think of no higher compliment than that.
