Andra Day is having a moment right now. The talented singer has already won a Golden Globe for her starring role in the film The United States Vs. Billie Holiday, and is up for an Academy Award this weekend. But before she hits the red carpet (if they even have one this year), she struts the Late-Night TV Music stage with her performance of the hip-hop soul number Phone Dies on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
It’s not the greatest showcase for her talents — they let the on-the-nose phone-shot approach go on far too long for its own good — but if Day wins an Oscar on Sunday, it might be your last chance to see her croon on TV for a while, so enjoy it. And speaking of awards, Day’s musical competition on Monday is also a winner — Karol G, who recently took home a trio of Latin American Music Awards for her Nicki Minaj collaboration Tusa. But if you thought she would celebrate by performing it one last time, think again. Instead, she’s already moving on, teaming up with Ludacris and Emilee Flood for her new cut Beautiful Boy on The Late Late Show With James Corden. I guess that’s what you call living in the moment.
