Submission Accomplished: Michael Baker | How Come You Sleep

The prolific French folksinger's earnest creations spread soothing serenity.

Thanks to the inexplicable popularity of my Submit Music page, I always have a digital backlog of albums, EPs, singles and videos awaiting my perusal. Here’s another recent must-hear, along with the Bandcamp link so you can buy the music straight from the source. Tell ’em I sent ya. And if you’ve got something I need to hear, send it my way. If I think you’re half as good as you think you are, I just might include you next time.

Michael Baker
How Come You Sleep

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE:Michael Baker is an Anglo-French singer/songwriter currently living in Lyon who has travelled the world playing his music to anyone and everyone who will listen. Pouring his heart and soul into every sinew of his songs, the feelings of honesty, belonging and serenity that are Michael’s hallmark, are constantly demonstrated throughout his music.

During the pandemic, Michael has been staying in the same house as long-time friend and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Stuart Buttle. They have used this period to write, record and produce How Come You Sleep, the followup to his sophomore album Salt, which was only released a year ago. If that isn’t enough of a testimony to how prolific Michael is an artist and songwriter, he has already been in to record his next album with Luke Potashnick (Tom the Lion, Alberta Cross) in Frome’s Wool Hall Studio (whose previous owners include Van Morrison).

Baker says: “I’ve been getting letters and messages throughout the year from people saying that my songs have got them through a very hard time, and I don’t know how to reply to them other than as if I’d known them my whole life. That’s the way that I would do it. I hope that my music gives them as much as it’s given me.”
