Late-Night TV Music (Mood Ring Edition) | Feb. 2, 2021

I could have used one of those old ’70s trinkets while watching Tuesday's lineup.

Remember Mood Rings? I always wanted one when I was a kid. I still do — if only so I could have watched it blast through the colours as I viewed Tuesday’s Late-Night TV Music playlist.

I’m pretty sure it would have been amber (nervous, unhappy) while I watched British singer-songwriter Nilüfer Yanya deliver her ’90s-style pop-rock fuzz-nugget Crash on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. It would surely have shifted to violet (passionate, excited) when Rhye hit the roller disco in his tracksuit to sing Black Rain on Jimmy Kimmel Live. And when Finneas picked up his acoustic guitar to offer the cheery little ditty Can’t Wait To Be Dead on The Late Late Show With James Corden, things would definitely have turned black. If I recall correctly, my finger probably would have started turning green by that point too, given how cheaply made Mood Rings were. Anyway, hope one of these suckers suits your midweek mood. Unless it’s Finneas; in that case, you should probably give someone a ring.
