Now Hear This: Parkland Music Project | Eminent Ghosts

I'm getting caught up on the good albums that have come out lately. Like this one.

THE EDITED PRESS RELEASE: “The most far-reaching and fully realized Parkland Music Project album to date, the Vancouver group led by Rob Malowany takes singer-songwriter roots and explodes them upwards and outwards through exploratory sonic textures, post-rock energy, and impassioned, empathic performances on Eminent Ghosts.

Although the project has had fluid membership throughout its existence, the last two years have seen the group working with a steady lineup, honing their chemistry through shows and live recordings at the now-defunct Vancouver arts space Merge. Eminent Ghosts, tracked over two days at Rain City Recorders by Jesse Gander (Japandroids, The Pack AD, etc), brings to bear that chemistry. Each track features live, ensemble takes with minimal overdubbing. Notably, the vocals are live takes, as Malowany responds to and inspires the direction of a given performance.

Eminent Ghosts features drummer Stephen Lyons and bassist Shanto Acharia (both of Juno-winning avant-rock septet Fond of Tigers), Neko Case collaborator Paul Rigby on pedal steel and acoustic, and long-time Malowany co-conspirator Robin Hunter on electric and lap steel guitars.

As with all Parkland Music Project releases, this is a labour of love for Malowany. In addition to his powerful vocals and tasteful, soundscape guitar work, he also mixed and mastered the album and art directed the packaging.”
