Late-Night TV Music (Back To The Roots Edition) | Dec. 10, 2020

MMJ, Fleet Foxes, Sturgill, Mandy and even Megan keep it grounded.

Every now and then, we all have to reconnect with our roots. I was reminded of this while watching Thursday’s Late-Night TV Music lineup — and no wonder.

You had Jim James and My Morning Jacket, making themselves at home on Late Night with Seth Meyers with their offbeat country-pop number Climbing The Ladder. You had Fleet Foxes and the Resistance Revival Chorus, raising the roof of a Brooklyn church with their performance of Can I Believe You on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. You had Sturgill Simpson and his VIP bluegrass outfit on Jimmy Kimmel Live, offering up All The Pretty Colors from his just-released surprised album Cuttin’ Grass 2. You had Mandy Moore and her hubby Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes getting festive with How Could This Be Christmas on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Hell, you even had Megan Thee Stallion and her squad strutting their stuff in an empty rodeo ring as they delivered a medley of Savage Remix and Body on The Late Late Show With James Corden. If that isn’t rootsy enough for you, well, you’re on your own.
