Late-Night TV Music (Class Act Edition) | Nov. 5, 2020

Christine & The Queens, James Black and Laura Benanti bring some style to the dial.

Late-night TV isn’t usually the classiest act on the dial. But Thursday’s musical lineup managed to put some much-needed style and sophistication back into the chat-show landscape.

Start with Christine and The Queens — aka French singer-songwriter Héloïse Adelaïde Letissier — who took The Late Late Show With James Corden on a tour of La Chapelle des Beaux-Arts in Paris while delivering her song People, I’ve Been Sad. Or try James Blake, who tickled some grand ivories while serenading The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon with his ballad Godspeed. Or jazz it up with Laura Benanti, crooning Don’t Worry ’Bout Me (backed by guitarist Pasqual Grasso) on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert — presumably some payback for her delightfully unhinged parodies of Melania Trump over the years. Stay classy, kids.
