Late-Night TV Music (Learning Edition) | July 28, 2020

Angel Olsen, Jason Aldean & Washed Out teach us a few things.

You learn something new every day. Here’s what I learned from Tuesday’s late-night TV musical performances:
1 | Angel Olsen — who delivered a typically haunting rendition of the title cut from her upcoming album Whole New Mess on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — apparently owns a gorgeous Silvertone acoustic guitar and has access to a very cool circular ballroom;
2 | Jason Aldean’s backyard in Nashville — where he and his band performed his latest cheeseball ballad Got What I Got for Late Night With Seth Meyers, according to the host — seems to have been designed to resemble the pool area of a Caribbean resort, complete with palm trees;
3 | Washed Out — whose split-screen video for the lush electro-pop gem Too Late showed up on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert site even though they’re off the air this week — can do more with an Ableton Push pad, a keyboard and two microphones than most folks can do with an entire band. Hope you learned something from all that. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday.
