Late-Night TV Music (Catching Up Edition) | July 20, 2020

Phoebe Bridgers, Jimmy Buffett, J.S. Ondara & Billy Strings are the names to know.

In case you didn’t notice, I took the morning off. Now it’s time to get back up to speed. Let’s start with Monday’s musical performances from the late-night airwaves. For my money, you can’t top the skeleton-suited Phoebe Bridgers’ home-karaoke glitter-ball version of Kyoto on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert — though Billy Strings’ country-bluegrass performance of Taking Water (shot at Nashville’s Station Inn) for the Joel McHale-hosted episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! is a damn close second. As for Jimmy Buffett and his bandmates lip-synching and fake-playing their way through his single Down at the Lah De Dah for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, well, really, what more did you expect from Jimmy Buffett? And since we’re getting caught up, I tossed in a bonus clip: J.S. Ondara’s Dylanesque track Pulled Out Of The Market from Friday’s Late Show. Enjoy.
