I don’t know if life is still on lockdown where you are — but here at the Upcoming Releases desk, the world is slowly returning to normal. Which is to say: New album announcements are coming in thick and fast — and perhaps more importantly, almost nobody is bumping albums down the road anymore. Will it hold? Your guess is as good as mine. For the moment, however, I’m calling that good news. Another bit of good news: Lana Del Rey — whose Norman Fucking Rockwell album was one of 2019’s highlights — plans to release a new album (possibly titled White Hot Forever) on Sept. 4. Then again, Del Rey also said she was going to release a spoken-work poetry album earlier this year, so who knows. But even if she bails, there’s a fine assortment of new fare on the way. Metalheads can look forward to DevilDriver’s Dealing With Demons Vol. 1. Indie lovers can get ready for National frontman Matt Berninger’s solo debut Serpentine Prison, produced by Booker T. Jones. Fans of Jason Molina and Elliott Smith can start saving up for new posthumous releases from both troubadours. And that’s just the start.
