Late-Night TV Music (Intimate To Intercontinental Edition) | April 13, 2020

Monday's performances ran the gamut from simple to simply ridiculous.

There’s more than one way to make a late-night TV music video at home. And we saw three of them on Monday. Pop power couple Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani took the simplest and most straightforward approach possible with their acoustic performance of the duet Nobody But You on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Country singer Sam Hunt took it up a technological notch or three by playing and singing with the backing track for Hard To Forget in his well-equipped home studio for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. But nobody did it bigger than Alesso and Liam Payne, who staged an intercontinental performance of the song Midnight — featuring drone-camera footage, concert-level lighting and a voyeuristic romp through Liam’s vast London penthouse — on the comeback episode of The Late Late Show With James Corden. Stay tuned to see if anybody raises the stakes even higher — perhaps Kanye West will do a number while seated behind the wheel of that convertible that Elon Musk launched into orbit. Fingers crossed.
