In this life, you have to take the good with the bad. Some days, of course, that’s easier said than done. Case in point: Monday’s late-night TV musical offerings. Sure, you had psychedelic Aussies Tame Impala and Kevin Parker doing double duty on Jimmy Kimmel Live with intimate performances of Lost in Yesterday and Breath Deeper, from their recent album The Slow Rush. But you also had the forgettable Joji — the latest persona of “Internet personality” George Kusunoki Miller, who previously called himself Filthy Frank and Pink Guy — serenading you with his generic pop-ballad waltz Run on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And you had the pretty boys of Surfaces — whose career would likely vanish in a heartbeat if they got bad haircuts — putting on their Sunday Best for Late Night With Seth Meyers. Finally, the less said about the increasingly cadaverious James Taylor’s anemic rendition of the classic Almost Like Being In Love on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, the better. In the words of Jim Jefferies: I think we can all do better. We can only hope the late-night TV gods take those words to heart. Though personally, I’m not holding my breath, you know?
