Late-Night TV Music (No-Brainer Edition) | July 16, 2019

Koffee, Weyes Blood & Mountain Goats deliver, but really, it's all about Croz.

Some mornings, choosing a clip to top this post is easier than others. Today it’s a no-brainer. There’s only one option: David Crosby’s killer rendition of his 1969 classic Long Time Gone with The Roots on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. (Croz also sat for an interview, but I can’t deal with Fallon’s fawning idiocy, so I’ll let you find those clips yourself.) It’s all downhill from there — which is not to suggest the other acts weren’t good in their own right. Weyes Blood brought her laid-back Everyday to The Late Show With Seth Meyers, Jamaican reggae artist Koffee showcased Toast (and her frontpack) on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and The Mountain Goats (with MVP Jon Wurster on drums) unveiled their Sicilian Crest on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Sadly, Colbert also jumped onstage to sing, dance and generally ham it up during the Goats’ rendition of the Sunset Tree oldie This Year — meaning Fallon wasn’t the most annoying talk-show host on the air for a change. Funny; that one’s usually a no-brainer.
