Late-Night TV Music (Inter/National Edition) | May 14, 2019

Maluma, NCT 127 & more gave it a shot. But really, it was all about The National.

It’s always a good evening when The National show up on late-night TV, far as I’m concerned. Tuesday was no exception, as the band’s performance of You Had Your Soul With You on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert was another winner. To be frank, it was all downhill from there — if fairly diverse. Colombian singer Maluma’s dance-pop piffle HP was not, sadly, an ode to steak sauce — and watching him on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was actually less memorable than watching him passionately kiss him mom. K-Pop mob NCT 127’s performance of the Jacksons knockoff Superhuman on The Late Late Show With James Corden made it clear teenagers are more culturally inclusive than they used to be, but their musical taste is still crap. For those who love Paramore, but wish the drummer got more star time, Zac Ferro’s HalfNoise performed All That Love Is and Flowers on Last Call With Carson Daly. And finally, during her last week on the air, Busy Philipps brought out Middle Kids to play their tune Edge of Town on Busy Tonight. But really, let’s be honest: It was all about The National.
