Next Week in Music | May 13-19 • 110 New Releases Headed Your Way

Here's all the new music that will be added to your playlist next week. And more.

There are more than 110 albums, EPs and singles being released next week. And yeah, I know that Carly Rae Jepsen’s Dedicated and DJ Khaled’s Father of Asahd are probably the two biggest releases of the week. But here’s the thing: I don’t care about either of them. Especially Khaled, who’s basically a talentless hype man. So anyway, I’m ignoring them for the albums that interest me. So sue me.

THE TOP ALBUMS

The National
I Am Easy to Find

The Ohio indie gods’ eight album is a companion disc to a short film of the same name by director Mike Mills (no, not the guy from R.E.M.). But according to a press release, “the former is not the video for the latter; the latter is not the soundtrack to the former. The two projects are, as Mills calls them, ‘Playfully hostile siblings that love to steal from each other’ — they share music and words and DNA and impulses and a vision about what it means to be human in 2019, but don’t necessarily need one another.” Whatever that means. The disc also includes a ton of female guest vocalists, including Gail Ann Dorsey, Lisa Hannigan, Sharon Van Etten, Mina Tindle and Kate Stables. So that should be different.

Rammstein
Rammstein (Untitled)

I don’t know much about Rammstein’s seventh studio album and first release in a decade, but I can tell you a few things: 1) It will very likely be bombastic and aggressive; 2) The subsequent tour will involve apocalyptic amounts of fire; 3) Untold numbers of people will be offended by their videos. And really, what else would you expect from these Teutonic terrors?

Tyler, the Creator
Igor

Like Rammstein, the Odd Future founder hasn’t released a lot of details about his fifth studio album, save for a release date, a few musical snippets and two different versions of the cover art. Hey, nobody said he was a decisive creator. However, it is the followup to his eccentric Grinch-inspired album, so maybe he’s working his way through some sort of classic film-character concept series. Or not.
