Late-Night TV Music | May 8, 2019

Bruce Hornsby, Rival Sons, Feels, Kygo and Rita Ora still can't beat Bonnie Raitt.

You just can’t beat the classics. That’s my takeaway from Wednesday’s late-night music performances. True, it was a lineup filled with variety: You had Kygo and Rita Ora performing the dance-pop ditty Carry On from the Pokémon Detective Pikachu soundtrack for the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. You had California rockers Rival Sons cranking out the riffy Too Bad on The Late Late Show With James Corden. You had Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers making some mellow noise with the moody Cast Off on Jimmy Kimmel Live. And you had indie-rock outfit Feels delivering a two-fer of Post Earth and Awful Need on Last Call With Carson Daly. But you just can’t top Bonnie Raitt singing John Prine’s bleakly beautiful classic Angel From Montgomery on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Sorry, it just doesn’t get better than that.
