Late-Night TV Music (Take Your Pick Edition) | March 11, 2019

If you don't like contemporary country or indie-pop, there's nothing for you here.

Indie-pop or contemporary country? Not much of a choice, I know. But those were your musical options on Monday’s late-night talk shows. In the former category, you had nerd-pop sibling trio AJR — a.k.a. Adam, Jack and Ryan Met — performing their typically quirky single 100 Bad Days on Jimmy Kimmel Live (which also posted 15 minutes of unaired performances). Not being a teenager, I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of their musical cocktail of pop melodies, hip-hop beats, electronica overtones and trumpet lines. But it was more interesting than Ellie Goulding’s folksy performance of her forgettable single Close to Me on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. And even that topped watching a dolled-up Maren Morris deliver the slow-moving title cut from her just-released album Girl on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon — or sitting through the eternally wimpy Dan + Shay’s latest insipid ballad All to Myself on Late Night With Seth Meyers. See what you think below. And come back tomorrow to find out if the music bookers made better choices on Tuesday.
