Lizzo and Buddy help keep it short and sweet on the talk shows.

Another day, another inadvertent but convenient mini-theme for the late-night talk shows’ musical segments. After Monday brought us lush symphonics, Tuesday gave us a series of single words — all five letters long. You had the always-fabulous Lizzo becoming a human disco ball during her energetic performance of the irresistible ’70s throwback Juice on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. You had rapper Buddy barking out his single Black (which seems hell-bent on setting a world record for the most repetitions of a single word in one song) on The Late Late Show With James Corden’s thematically matching set (and with an assist from A$AP Ferg). And of course, you had the act that didn’t get the memo: Country star Randy Houser, who explained What Whiskey Does on Jimmy Kimmel Live with the help of Hillary Lindsey. In a word: Cheers.
