Late-Night TV Music (Many Happy Returns Edition) | Jan. 7, 2019

Noname, Taylor Bennett and more kick off another year of tunes on the tube.

And we’re back! After two weeks off for the holidays, the late-night talk shows finally returned Monday — along with a solid slate of musical guests to boot. The best of the bunch (far as I’m concerned, anyway) was rapid-fire rapper Noname, joyfully dealing her Ace with the help of Smino and Saba on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Not far behind: Powerhouse vocalist Donna Missal, cutting loose with a blistering performance of Keep Lying on Late Night with Seth Meyers. By comparison, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert showed off Chicago rapper Taylor Bennett — who showed off his abs during his flowing headnodder Streaming Services. Finally, James Corden and Jimmy Kimmel brought out the singer-songwriters, with the former presenting Alec Benjamin‘s yearningly groovy Let Me Down Slowly and the latter offering a double dose of Mt. Joy with the strummy Jenny Jenkins and the dreamy Sheep. And so begins another year of Late-Night TV Music. Stay tuned for more.
